There is known faults in a section of the track. The train equipment is calibrated using these faults to ensure the onboard equipment is reading track faults accurately. It’s more to test the trains onboard equipment then actually assessing the track here. I believe it usually runs back and forth twelve times. 👍🏻

It’s not a dumb question at all. This test track is mostly for testing engineers trains like tampers and other heavy track maintenance equipment. It can be used for other things such as driver training and brake testing. It’s not part of the mainline network so it is a safe environment to do tests. 👍🏻

As far as I know there was no Nuclear material on the wagon at the time. It would have been empty and decontaminated.

@ it’s a knock on of Covid mate the routes cannot afford it due to not having the money and it should have never been brought in house to network rail far too easy for them to cancel jobs. It worked best under a contractor who objective was to make money which ment it very rarely failed

If i remember right the RHTT tanks were being tested for dust suppression.

Most of it is dirt which is left next to the track (Or atleast that's what they've done here, been up a few times to take a look !)

The used ballast would usually go to Doncaster for recycling. On this occasion they discharged it at the track side to spread out to reinstate the double line. (They never got that far in the end)

Its only supposed to mimic the livery, Its better than East Coast gray.

I think copyright got in the way of that. Its very good for a mimicked livery.
